Thief Houaka Yang leaves video of him on stolen camera from Republican state Senate candidate

WISCONSIN -- A man who stole a camcorder is a contender for the nation's dumbest thief - after he used it to introduce himself and admit to stealing the gadget.

Houaka Yang, from La Crosse, Wisconsin, stole the camera from a car in the driveway of Republican state Senate candidate Bill Feehan.

Police say Houaka Yang stole a video camera and in a recording gave a tour of his home and admitted he stole the camera. At one point he says, "It's OK. The cops won't figure it out."

He even shows his face in the video. Not only will that video be used in the prosecution, another video helped lead police to Yang.

Investigators showed the footage to officials at a local high school, who identified one suspect - a student - who in turn identified Yang.

The suspected thief is scheduled to make an initial appearance on Wednesday on theft and concealed weapon charges.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of two years and three months in jail and a $30,000 fine.
